Is my power supply inefficient for my new graphics card?

I've been experiencing consistent driver crashing and potential BSOD whenever I attempt to open basically anything other than the pre-installed, non-updated version of Internet Explorer, or Steam. I get a black screen, followed by a notification that my drivers have crashed and been restarted. It does this several times, before it eventually either gives me back control of the computer (if i manage to close the offending program), or it'll give me a BSOD (x116).

Here's the thing: I just realized last night that my graphics card is the overclocked version of the Radeon R7 265. I only have a 500W power supply, and it's three years old. Is this a problem? Can my computer get BSOD and driver crashing because of a bad power supply?

Current power supply: OCZ ModStream Pro, 500W
Current graphics card: MSi Radeon R7 265
Current motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3
Current processor: AMD Phenom II X2 555, 3.2 GHz
Current RAM: 3 x 2GB PNG 240pin DDR3

I've tried all sorts of drivers. Beta drivers, manufacturer drivers, drivers that came on the CD, previous versions of the drivers. They all spit out the same error, x116 - attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed. It cites atikmpag.sys as the culprit in the blue screen, and blue screen view also shows dxgmms1.sys and dxgkrnl.sys in red. And I can't seem to locate any fix that works for me.
