Higher than 60Hz??

Solution

That's a DVI-D Dual Link cable which is what you'd want to have.. So I don't see why you shouldn't be able to set the refresh rate higher than 60Hz. I also have a Samsung monitor.. it's a SyncMaster 931BF and I can set it right now at 75Hz with a cheap video card with a DVI-D single link cable, even in VGA mode it can display 75-80Hz and even with an old computer...

You would need a Dual-Dvi cable or a good Hdmi cable to achieve more than 60HZ, i myself use a 120hz screen, with a dual dvi cable and it works great! Simple DVI wont have enough juice for 120hz. Also make sure you bought a 120hz capable monitor!

Higher refresh rate settings can depending on the video drivers... sometimes when I reinstall the driver the option is available for up to 85Hz and 1920 x whatever (can remember the resolution). But after a few settings higher resolutions and refresh rates disappear... I've never had problems with these video settings so I've paid no attention to them, and can't explain excatly why higher settings disappear... But one thing I can assure, is that 60Hz shouldn't be the only FR available, though it's not as important on flat (LCD, LED) monitors as it was with CRTs (at least that's what I've read). Higher refresh rates were supposed to give sharper more stable images on CRT monitors but they're not supposed to make a difference in flat monitors.. It may be important in gaming though. If you want to have the option available, reinstall the video drivers and check the refresh rate right after... I can't guarantee it will help but it can't hurt to try.
