it is fine for gaming if you plan on doing any overclocking i would look for a 4770 K as the non K versions do not overclock

then that processor will be fine. you could cut back to a i5 but you will loose hyper threading. it does make a 10-20 fps difference in some games and will also provide a bit of future proofing for newer titles. if you do choose an i7 over an i5 and you are using windows 7 do some reading on cpu core unparking. its quiet easy to do and gets you the best performance out of i7 without going to windows 8
Dude, this one is a hell of a powerful processor for gaming, but for only gaming, I would recommend an Intel Core i5 CPU. If you have the budget, go with this i7 one.
