Hi I need help regarding my friends PC.

Earlier my friend tried to restart his PC, however the PC failed to boot after it shut down. Now whenever he tries to power the computer up it turns on for a second, the fans and lights get powered and turns straight back off. Nothing appears on the monitor before it turns itself off. The PC worked fine before he tried restarting it.

He has went through and made sure all the connections were properly in however he noticed that the PC would boot up while he was applying pressure down onto the 24 pin power connector on the motherboard.

Here are pictures on the plug and socket:

If anyone has any fixes or suggestions they would be appreciated, thanks.

most likely there is a bad solder , or crimping [ or whatever they do ] and one wire is not properly connected .

A spare power supply would let you test that very quickly

by the looks of it the atx lead connector is damaged on the 5th pin down. im pretty sure they should all have spade clips in them and pin 5 looks like it doesnt. if theres no wire going to that 1 then fine but if there is then thats likely the issue.

Thanks both of you, he is going to go to the PC shop tomorrow and test it with another PSU and cable.

Would there be any correlation between trying to restart the computer and this happening?

He's found out that it is the green wire connected to the power cable that is faulty, will this require a whole new PSU to be bought?
