Fair Warning....THIS IS A BEEYOTCH of a battle I've been fighting....
I've been struggling with this for a couple of weeks now and I'm finally done surfing for answers and ready to ask for help. I've been to several websites and the most recent "steps" I've followed are from this website (Steps to perform BEFORE posting about POST)
I have a home built PC that has been functioning just fine for the past year or so. Then, one day, I decided to MOVE the PC about 6 inches...it was sitting on concrete and stayed on concrete...so, should not have been static charge. However, I heard a pop and then smelled that wonderful burning smell. So, I eye-balled the motherboard to see if I could see anything fried...nothing. So, I skipped the difficult steps and just replaced the PSU; I wanted a more cable-friendly PSU anyway, perfect excuse. I went from a CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Compatible with New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready to a CORSAIR 860W AX 80+ PLAT FULL-MOD. Then, I at least had the "Power On" light on my ASUS Z-97-PLUS mobo. But it still would not boot. I pulled the graphics card...no boot. I pulled the Firewire card I have...no boot. I pulled the memory sticks two by two...no boot. (By the way, the memory sticks are G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL) So, I figured it's either my two month old MOBO or my two month old CPU that I bought bundled with the MOBO (INTEL BOX INTEL CORE I5-4670K). So, again, instead of taking forever with the RMA, I went to my local retailer and bought an ASUS Z87-Pro. Reinstalled everything...no boot. With the pro, I still get the PowerOn light and I get a TPU Switch to light up. I've disconnected all fans in my LIAN LI Lancool PC-K63 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case...no boot. I've disconnected all but the CPU fan...no boot. Now that I think about it, the only things I haven't done are disconnect all hard drives, I have 8 of them...3 SDD and 5 WD Caviar Blacks. AND, I have not tested the CPU...but I don't know HOW to test the CPU. When I bought the new Z97-Pro, I cleaned the thermal paste off the CPU with rubbing alcohol and reapplied with some diamond paste...per my local retailer's suggestion. I even unscrewed the panel that holds the power switch in place to see if I could detect any melting there....nothing.
I'm at my wit's end and I have no clue what more to try. Do I go buy another Intel Processor???!?! I COULD take it to the local retailer and let them charge me $135 per hour to figure out what it is. But damnit, I'm a computer nerd for a living...I SHOULD be able to figure this out...lol. I've damn near bought a new computer already....lol. ANY other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Please help. My wife can't see her family pictures  and I can't get to my Plex library ...I'm now using my ASUS laptop to store movies and use as a temporary Plex Media Server...lol
Thanks in advance...I hope one of the REAL gurus on here can help me figure this out.
