not sure what r9 card to get

Trying to figure out what card to get, my budget was about $260 before rebates I noticed that some of the 280x cards are cheaper than the 280 cards from good brands like msi, gigabyte, and asus. Not really sure if I should get the xfx 280x or a better brand 280. My only problem with the asus one is that one time I had one of their other cards were the heatsink didn't fully cover the other chips on the card, and I was just playing a game and I heard a weird buzz noise in my headphones and then my screen went black, and then I found some part from the asus card on the bottom of my case. I saw a comment from someone saying that the asus cooler doesn't fully cover the whole card so that is what worries me.

dude tbh with the price and performance ratio in mind the r9 270x would be the bang for the buck i suppose.
let me share you my story i last year i was still using my intel core2quad q6600 w/dfi lanparty board and 4gb ddr2 corsair dominator with an r9 270x hawk from msi. guess what i can play battlefield 4 on ultra @720p. no lags
now i upgraded to lga 1155 msi b75a g43 gaming board w/ an 13 3220 w/an 8gb (4sticks) of gskill ripjaws my gaming exp. is superb. still using the msi r9 270x hawk on a single monitor @ 720 and 1080 resolution
i guess what im tryin to point here is if you're on a budget and want to play games w/full eye candy go for the r9 270x hawk/ toxic/ devil/ asus these cards temp are amazingly low on full load because of the custom cooler for the said brands.
But if you want to be more edgy and want to have a multiple display go get the 280x asus/msi/toxic these non reference card can compete with a reference 290 (not 290x)

Nvidia is out of the question, this isn't for gaming this is for doing stuff with hash's. But I think I'm just going to go for a screw it moment and buy two 290x cards so I can get my work done faster and get more money by the end of the day.

I didn't say anything about crypto currency, I do stuff with password hashes for companies. Not everyone who asks questions is a gamer or miner.;
