another hard drive won't show up

I have 2 separate 500GB Seagate HDD. This is for my backup files. i'm trying to retrieve it by connecting it usig Sata Cable.

Is power cable needed if I directly connect it to my MoBo?
I tried connecting it with a power cable but still not showing up.

You did not say whether you have partitioned or formatted the HDD. Does it show in the BIOS? If it shows in the BIOS you can use Windows disk manager to see it and partition and/or format it.

it is not partitioned neither formatted.

it does not show on my bios though.
