So I upgraded from XP to 7 recently, and my Local Disks D and E were carried over to 7 (not formatted). Butnow if I try to rename any of my old files, I get a dialog box to which I have to say yes. I know UAC controls this, but I don't want to switch it off for security reasons. Is there any way I can tell UAC to not popup when I am renaming files?

You should be able to change the UAC settings so that it doesn't prompt you about changing file names but still prompts you for more important stuff (i.e. when software wants to install). UAC pops up for me every time that Java & Flash want to update, but I've never had it pop up for renaming files.

Hopefuly that should happen.

I don't think so, the only way to customize UAC is via the slider, and that has only 3 options.

I have already taken ownership of all the files. The problem still persists. However, if I rename a file and then reboot the PC, I don't get the dialog for that file again.

I just checked, the administrators group already has full control.
