My friend got an msi n45gts cyclone, his smps was of 450watt with intel pentium dual core e5700. 1st day he played nfs rivals in ultra and the 2nd day crysis on ultra, while playing crysis his ups gave a loud noise and there was burning smell from the cpu. He turned off his computer and later when he started, his computer would display for few min and then went blank . He gave his graphics card to me for testing. I tried it in my computer and went well i played crysis and splinter cell blacklist.
I returned it to him, still it didnt work. he gave to his another friend and there also it runned well playing battlefield 3.
Next he called some 3-4 technician
One said motherboard doesnt support the graphics card
another-Earthing problem
3rd-Graphics card problem.
Then he again treid to run in his computer then it game bsod while running game. He tried 2-3 times then his hard disk detection got problem saying please select proper bootable device.
What could be the problem
And one more thing. After that loud noise he started his computer in onboard graphics there it worked fine but when the power went, his ups had no backup whereas his ups always had backup

Did he explain the loud noise & burning smell to the technician's ?

If it was a cheap power supply, it could be that the loud noise came from that as it couldn't cope. Worst case scenario, the power supply has damaged something when it 'blew'. Or just the power supply has an issue.

What is the make/model of the power supply ?
