Wondering what Graphics Card to get?

I've just rebuilt my PC and now I'm a bit stuck - I'm not sure which graphics card to go for? The GTX 770 is very tempting but so is the R9.

I don't have very much money so whatever I go for I'd have to save for.

This is my current setup:
AMD FX-8350 4GHz Socket AM3+
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 Motherboard
SSD drive for Windows 7 64bit
1tb SATA for storage
8GBx2 Ram
AMD Radeon 6450

I know, the card is dire, but it was cheap. Weirdly it plays Skyrim and Oblivion with no issues but hates Alan Wake. Time to upgrade.

When here is a list of R9 280X and GTX 770 prices. Note it does not include everywhere and is not always accurate.

Cheapest R9 280X with shipping charges included is the XFX R9 280X from amazon:http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-video-card-r9280xtdfd

Cheapest GTX 770 is the MSI 770: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-n770tf2gd5oc

Actually the prices between the £147/£180 mark is the GTX 760. It is just how amazon pricing works. Sometimes it is reduced sometime it is not. E.g the Asus GTX 770 was once £148.99 pounds last month or so but it has gone back to retail prices:

Get the 280x. Not only will it slightly perform better, but it has 1GB more VRAM than the 770 which will be useful for future games. Here's the cheapest ( but still good) model of the 280x.
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB Double Dissipation Video Card ($259.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $259.99
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

It's also cheaper than the 770 which is a plus.

I should add, I'm in the UK. The difference in price can be a bit odd over here - some places the 770 is cheaper, as the R9 is harder to find. The prices for either wobble between the £147/£180 mark from week to week ($246.12/$301.37).

Thanks!

I was looking at the lower version R9, this one: http://www.ebuyer.com/579359-sapphire-dual-x-r9-270x-2gb-gddr5-oc-dual-dvi-hdmi-displayport-pci-e-11217-04-20g which comes in at £181-ish. GTX 770 comes in within the price range at this store and a couple of others depending on the manufacturer and on deals. Or this: http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/VTX3D+Radeon+R9+280X+3072MB+GDDR5+PCI-Express+Graphics+Card+%2B+FREE+2x+Games+%28Silver+Award%29+?productId=59721

Is it worth the extra money for the 280? The 270 seems like a lot of card for the money. As you can tell it's been a long time since I had to buy a card!
