Problem with Hard Drives.

So, some time ago my PC failed to boot and i got a "a disc read error occured'' message every time i tried to open my PC. Fortunately, after running the CHKDSK /R /P programm from the recovery console, windows finally booted.

However, there were many problems with Windows, as the boot process was really slow , the sound was distorted in videos and such and many crashes occured. A friend advised me to replace my hard drive, as it didn't have much time left.

Later, I went and bought a new hard drive ( I'll post the specifics in the end ), which was a regular Seagate SATA HDD. The installation was rather easy inside the case, but when Windows launched, the hard drive was not recognized anywhere, neither in the BIOS setup nor in the device manager. So, I changed SATA ports between the two hard drives but from now on not even the old one is being recognized, even though I changed them back.

From that time, everytime I boot the PC this messages appears :"PXE-E61: Media Test Failure", followed by something like : '' Insert boot media and press any key. When i enter the BIOS setup, in the IDE configuration, in the SATA 1,2 spots it says not detected. I am pretty sure the cables i use are not faulty, so i guess it's either a motherboard or a PSU problem.

I'd be really grateful if you could help me and I am really sorry for the long post.

System specs: OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Processor : Intel Core2 CPU Motherboard : AS-Rock 75D8U 775Dual-VSTA Old hard drive : Seagate 500 GB New hard drive : Seagate Barraccuda 1TB.

If you need anything else, please let me know.

Are you overclocking? If you are, make sure the BCLK is not over 100. That doesn't really sound like the issue here though. Assuming the hard drives are good, to be honest that motherboard sounds like it's on the end of it's life cycle.

The only suggestions I have would be to update the BIOS (which is risky on a computer that old), try a different IDE / SATA port, or maybe blow the dust off of the motherboard and connectors with a can of compressed air.
