Two very simple things to do to make sure that you will be safe whilst using XP still is to get a thrid party web browser like firefox or chrome and use that as Internet explorer is no longer being patched. And the second thing is to get a good antivirus for the machine and make sure that it is working and that is about all you can/need to do

You definitely need to install some security programs to protect your Windows XP after Microsoft support ends. I am using this real time protection program with free threat removal tool. http://www.xpprotection.com

Make sure your antivirus is enabled for online protection... Malwarebytes Anti-Malware paid version offers realtime protection... Disable all Windows Services that are related to Remote Access, Remote Registry, (Not those related to RCP), Computer Browser, Server, Telnet, Telephony.
Start / Run / type: Services.msc and press Enter. Double click on Remote access / Startup Type Select Disabled... Apply and OK.

There are tons of people who are having the same problem as you. Having said that, I would recommend you Rollback XP, an instant recovery software that is that is specifically tailored for Windows XP users. This software works on a system of snapshots, and so basically when a virus infects your computer, you could go back to the previous snapshot (before your computer was infected). You can actually download it now, as it is free: http://www.horizondatasys.com/en/products_and_solutions...

Please answer this simple question. Now that XP support has ended does that also include XP based apps like FIXIT CENTER? I can still download it but get an error message, "CANNOT DOWNLOAD TROUBLESHOOTERS, CHECK INTERNET CONNECTION". Does this mean that it is no longer functional? Same for OUTLOOK.com? OE6 still functions as does IE8. Newer IE's do not apply to XP. I am not about to upgrade to a different OS. No reason to. I have always run XP with AUTO UPDATES OFF. Never made a difference. I DID replace MSE. Any insight welcome. <email address removed by moderator>
