Can someone set me straight reorganizing my software setup.
Present Setup: 120GB ssd with windows 7 64bit plus, all the accessories that went onto it.
(NB. computer shop did the software install due to I have horrendous internet speed also It is my 1st build and it needed checking)
2TB hdd partitioned into 3 drives 1.storage of photos 2. gaming programs, 3.software backup and some other accessories)
The ssd is near full now for some reason.
also I tried to load a game requiring Steam which after several failed attempts to install itself was uninstalled completely. This alone increased bootup by a whopping 23 seconds. so thats never getting on again. (steam and electrons don't mix well)

AIM Wish to reorganise my drives and have 180GB ssd for the OS (win7 64bit) & only necessary accessories that must go on the same drive as this OS is on. (this was original plan but the 180 ssd was d.o.a. but replacement has arrived)

Example:
1. larger SSD 180 GB os7 only (16GB RAM)
2. 1st HDD 1TB for all programs (except for a flight sim)
3. 2nd HDD 2TB for music, videos & pictures
4. smaller SSD 120 GB flight sim? Or do I use the 120 for something else eg using it for the 1TB hdd as its own super fast cache drive??? .

Does it make sense to add the 120GB drive as a dedicated cache for the 1TB HDD with the programmes on ?? but it sounds good.
WD has launched a Black 2 Dual Drive in 2 ½” version, my thinking is the os on the 180 ssd does it’s thing and the programmes run from the HHD which has its own personal ultra fast ssd cache drive when needed. Or have I missed the boat some where?

Software I will be using: (doesn’t require blitzing speed)
Corel Draw (used for basic designing)
Photo Paint (for photo editing)
Auto CAD 2D (nothing fancy as it is only 2D version)
Video mp3 player
Asus power suite
Bench marking & Tweaking software
Need speed for: NFS shift 2 and X-Plane 10 flight sim (requires 80GB + add-ons)
and will be getting watch dogs or something later on.
I have installed NFS on the HDD and it works fine

1 other thing, 1TB is huge for running programs .. or is it? Do I just get a 2TB drive (uses 40% more power than a 1TB drive)
Just wish to have blazing fast boot-up and good flight sim, I'm not gaming online due to I only have substandard dial-up and not by choice. Once set-up, the PC will never be connected to the net.

btw I may not be able to reply straight away but will check each day
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apart from the OS once installed, what else would you put on that SSD and not the HDD? I'm thinking nothing at all.

Check what's on your ssd. I bet it's more than just the OS.

I've got Windows 7 64 bit plus a bit of other stuff that wouldn't allow custom installs on mine. I've got 30gb left over after also losing some from format and a reserve partition. I have ahd people tell me they use 64gb ssds for their OS. I think that's BS. But I think 120gb should be more than enough.

Unless you got more than one OS on the SSD.

Sounds like what I want. 1 review said to leave about 25% free for headroom as from there they slow down. Headroom for what?, whats it doing behind my back?. The 180GB is just sitting there so I will use it. Suppose to have been dual boot but the shop told me that the mobo wouldn't recognize it.. Dont think they used a bigger enough hammer.
