I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that current has a single Hynix 1GB 2Rx16 PC2-6400S-666-12, but I want to add another 1GB RAM...can I use a Hynix 1GB 2Rx16 PC3-8500S-7-10-A1 to do this? I have my eye on an auction for 2 of the PC3s, so if I could replace the original PC2 with a pair of PC3s, I would also be able to do that.

No, absolutely not. You can't install DDR3 memory instead of DDR2 memory. They are incompatible standards. You can't simply put DDR3 memory into a DDR2-based laptop.

Please note that I unselected the previous Best Answer as it is not correct. I don't want to send the wrong message to other users. Honest mistake, I am sure, but not one to be recorded as a BA.
