hello, i was just wondering what that little checkbox meant, noticed that pc's system properties memory was " 4.00 GB ( 2.99 ) usable " and i was told to untick that maximum memory tick box. why was it ticked by default?

Solution
The Max mem I usually just leave unticked, it can be used as sort of a diagnostic, i.e. to test how a program, game will run with less memory, but generally of little use.....the box next to it however 'number of processors' can be useful, by default, Win starts up on a single core, you can raise this to it's max and it can decrease boot time a bit ;)
