So i got this pc few years back which came with an i5 760 and its been good to me since day 1. playing all the usual games with good fps ( at 1080p ) using my sapphire 7870 OC. which i also got some year(s) back. But im starting to see the recomended requirement Cpu's in todays releases go higher. watch dogs is the first. the recomended cpu is i7 3700 3.5Ghz or amd 8350 4 Ghz . wtf up with that :S. you guys think i can squeeze 1 more year out of this cpu before i ditch it? im a student studying atm so cant afford to build a new pc.

Best solution

Yeah if you can get a good cooler and overclock it then you should get another year out of it no problem, its still a good cpu.

Heres a good overclocking guide for your CPU:

okay. but would my psu be enough? its a 525W one that alienware gave me along with the pc. and im already running the 7870 overclocked at 1Ghz.

Yeah that will be fine. The main thing will be getting a better cooler, but you can obviously use this with your next mobo/cpu so is more of an investment.

The CM Hyper 212 Evo seems to be the best budget cooler, if you want to spend a bit more then look at the Phanteks TC-12DX, if you want to spend more still then look at either the Phanteks TC14PE, Noctua D14/D15, or AIO Liquid coolers like the H100i, H105, Kraken X60 etc.

Cool, clear all the dust out between the fan and the radiator too if you have touched it for a while, then get overclocking! Good luck :)
