Hey everyone, so I just started working for a smallish mechanics shop. The owner has more or less put me in charge of website stuff as kind of a secondary job. He has an Ecommerce website with several hundred different items that hasn't been updated in forever. He wants to have a new website made and then keep up with maintenance and updating. One question he had that I am also not sure on is, how would we update pricing and all that good stuff fairly easily? I'm sure you can go in and change every price one by one. But is there an easier way? How does a huge site like amazon for example change pricing? I'm sure they don't change prices one by one.

This is a very broad question that doesn't have a specific answer. Amazon has huge teams devoted to website design and programming, so there isn't a direct correlation here.

What I would do is recommend you find a local web designer/specialist. They should be able to investigate what you have, how the website is updated, and what type of system they would recommend. They should also be able to document the steps needed to make updates, like pricing. Then you would be able to keep maintaining the small stuff, like pricing & adding/removing parts.

The hard part is finding a good web consultant. So I would look for recommendations of businesses near you, and then check out their websites. Then have two that you feel might be decent, and have them present to you their recommendations. Then choose the one that seems best to you. You may have to pay them a bit for the initial investigation of your existing setup, but the follow-up sales pitch should be one to win your business.
