Hello Toms!,

Firstly, I apologize if this is the wrong section, it seemed the most appropriate. I am currently taking an online Networking class and unable to interview anyone in person as I am a deployed Soldier. My assignment isn't due for a few weeks, but if anyone works for a networking company or can answer these questions it would be greatly appreciated.

I will only have you interview one network administrator but you should think
about 5 organizations in your town that might have someone acting in that
capacity. Be sure and identify the person, their title and the organization.

1. Is your network using Ethernet?

2. What transmission speed does your network use?

3. What type of backbone does your network use?

4. What type of wiring is used for the Backbone and workstations ?

5. Do you use WAN technologies?

6. If you all the money you wanted in your budget, what upgrades would you
make?

7. If you had money enough for only one upgrade, what would it be?

Thank the IT professional for their time.

Identify the person you interviewed and the organization.

Thank you all!

Can't identify myself or the company, but wrote the following based on a large (quite dated), corporate network I used to work on as a senior network engineer. Hope it helps.

1. Is your network using Ethernet?
yes, Of course!

2. What transmission speed does your network use?
100mb to desktop, 1gb elsewhere in lan, 100mb in wan

3. What type of backbone does your network use?
as in uplinks to core switches? 2X2 1gb etherchannels (1 to each core)
2X8 1gb ehterchannels between cores.
Our network was multi site and therfore I would have called the WAN the backbone really which was 100MB routed managed by BT.

4. What type of wiring is used for the Backbone and workstations ?
typical cat 5/rj45 mostly, with optical SFPs for longer haul...

typical cat 5/rj45 mostly, with optical SFPs for longer haul. Connections to wan are Serial.

5. Do you use WAN technologies?
inter site Bt managed 21CN based pipes, Hardware wan optimization appliances.

6. If you all the money you wanted in your budget, what upgrades would you
make?
Bring Layer 3 switching down to Distribution layer from core.
1gb to desktop, 10gb elsewhere
better tooling for network management and monitoring eg cisco works.

7. If you had money enough for only one upgrade, what would it be?
Bring Layer 3 switching down to Distribution layer from core.
