Discussion and questions about vram in gaming

So I want to discuss some things about vram in gaming. As i've seen in many, MANY threads is that most people think you don't need anything more than 2gb of vram currently. I plan on buying a GTX 770 4gb very soon. I think I would need it since I plan on keeping the GTX 770 4gb for several years and just doing SLI when the time comes that I need it. From what I've seen games have increased in vram requirement at a fast enough pace for me to consider getting a 4gb GTX 770 if I want to keep it for a few years.

I would like to see this forum's perspective on the matter. I think we all know 4gb is pretty useless now but I have not seen any threads about the long term advantage of the 4gb cards.

I apologize if my english sucks I am from Japan :p

Solution
here we go again.... if you have future plans to SLI the card your best bet is to get the 4gb 770. if you are going to run a single GPU @ 1080p a 2gb 770 will be good.

it's simple. textures use vram. games with ultra textures often use 3 or even 4 gb of vram. if you want ultra textures in current and upcoming games, you want 3 or 4 gb of vram.

watch dogs NEEDS 3 gb of vram for ultra textures and wolfenstein needs 4.

2 gb of vram is fine for high textures but i wouldnt say more vram is useless, because simply, it is not

I have a 2gb GTX 770
I run Watch Dogs at 50-60FPS on Ultra and Wolfenstein: the New order at the same on Ultra.

I am not going to get into this argument again. I put in my two cents, you put in yours. stop trolling the forms and arguing with everyone. it is one thing to disagree, just say your piece and be done, but when you start calling people lairs you are going a bit far. people come here for advice not to get bashed, and watch elitist kids argue.

"The caveat is that you’ll require a GPU with 3GB of VRAM to play with maximum-detail textures enabled, without encountering stutters. On cards with less than 3GB of VRAM, previously used textures will be removed frequently from memory to make way for those visible on the path ahead. This can result in hitching, stuttering, and even temporary pauses if other system-related bottlenecks are encountered during the process."

chances are you are just confusing textures with detail. even i ran watch dogs on ultra detail

Why need two 4gb cards? lil overkill with 1 monitor at 1080p no?
I can max settings on any game at 1080p with no anti with 2x2gb cards and most can handle it i just do not like the extra temps and occasional dips under 60fps.
The HD7850 is def not the best card either but when i have pushed them hard for the hell of it i am pretty sure there was no vram wall hit.
