Black Screen while using HDMI to DVI on PS3
I have a Samsung 943SNXPLUS monitor with 1 DVI and 1 VGA Slot, I wanted to connect My Ps3 to the same monitor, it supports Resolution upto 1360X768. I bought a DVI to HDMI cable which is perfectly working and I have tested it with my PC(My GPU has a HDMI out, it works perfectly with that) I've tried resetting the Ps3's display settings by letting it beep 2 times, I still get a black Screen. I believe it is HDCP compliant. Not to mention I've tried switching sources from Analog to Digital for the DVI to HDMI cable. I also would like to mention the monitor is sorta glowing not like the switched off black, I mean it's switched on, it's lit up.

Check out the review from the guy who at the bottom of the first page who uses it for PS3!

With all of these you can shop them around and try to find a seller with a better price. Check out the...

The PS3 want to display in 720p or 1080p. So your monitor needs to scale the resolution on it's end, which it seems it's not capable of. See if you can set the resolution on the PS3 to 720p and give it a try, most likely won't work because the monitor would still need to scale 720 to 768.

I'll be glad if I can play it on 720p, as I've already mentioned, my monitor can handle resolutions upto 1360X768, I get a black lit up screen. So can you gimme a solution?

If your Monitor is able to scale images (because the PS3 wont) then you should already be seeing images. Since you are not it would seem that you won't be able to use your PS3 on that particular monitor.

If your monitor has settings in the on screen menu for setting the resolution try that, otherwise I'm sorry but it seems like a no go.

Hmm, I don't believe I can set resolutions using just the monitor, aww :(

Could you suggest a good monitor with HDMI input, supporting Full HD for under 200$?

---------EDIT-----------
Yo, I just checked my screen resolution from the monitor when I connected Ps3, it said 720x480, I'll be glad to play it on that resolution atleast, can you help me do that?

If your monitor could scale the resolution itself it would. It cannot and that is why you aren't seeing a picture.

Scaling means the PS3 is sending (in this instance) 720x480 and the monitor adapts the resolution to what it can display natively (which means on it's own without a graphics card of any kind sending it the info) In your monitors case it's native resolution is 1360x768. Since it can't scale the image that would mean the PS3 would have to output in 1360x768 which it cannot.

I'll have a look tomorrow for some examples of good monitors if you'd like.
If you want some tips to find one on your own here's a few
Samsung Philips and Acer (often times also Benq) make good monitors
Look for something with a decent response time 5ms or less.

I'm curious though, even if you could get this working, what would you use for sound? The DVI doesn't provide it

If this shit's gonna work for the video, I'll hook my PS3's AV cables to 2RCA female to 3.5mm male, then I'll put the male end of the adapter into a 3.5mm female to female coupler and use my PC headphones or speakers whichever's giving me a higher quality audio, man if you find any solution, I'll be open, I need it to work and I can't afford a brand new Huge HD TV

Either that audio set up or I'll get a 2RCA Female to 3.5mm female jack and hook my Headphones/ speakers into it

No need to buy a HD TV if you only want a monitor. Many monitors come with HDMI (especially if they display in 1920x1080). If you really want to use your PS3 on the same monitor as your PC for under 200$ US you can find one. Heck I might even be able to find one with speakers (although monitor speakers are often nowhere near as good as decent PC speakers/headphones)

I realize these are all ASUS, I had meant to write ASUS instead of Acer in my last post. Don't get me wrong I think Acer's are fine (if you get them on a good sale). The reason I wrote Acer instead of ASUS is because I have an Acer logo on my monitor staring me in the face right now ;)
