Failing Drive/Data Recovery

I am working on a customers desktop. (HP; AMD six-core; 1TB HDD; 12GB RAM). Recently, the BIOS threw an error message stating imminent failure of the HDD (I don't have the exact verbiage at this time.), then "press F2 to continue or F10 for Setup". Regardless of which button you push, the system reboots and the same error message from BIOS is received.

I pulled the drive and slaved it to my desktop to see if I could recover any data from the drive. My desktop was unable to detect the drive at all. The drive would spin up and I could hear the heads trying to read the drive, but, other than that, nothing.

The next thing I tried was to slave the device to a Linux box (Ubuntu) and force a NTFS mounting. Again, the OS would not acknowledge the drive.

The final thing I tried was a "freezer trick". No change in my results.

So, the question I have for everyone is, does anyone have any other ideas that I haven't tried yet? (short of sending the HDD to a data recovery facility. I don't really have the cash for that.)

I know there are many posts relating to this kind of issue, but I have yet to find a post that covers the specific issue that I am having. If there is one, my apologies for not finding it.

Thanks in advance to all who offer their help. It is much appreciated.

Solution
Here is one service that only charges $300: http://www.300dollardatarecovery.com/

If they cannot get your data back there is no charge.

If your system can't detect the drive then the only option is a recovery service, just be aware that even they don't guarantee recovery for the price paid. Whatever you do, do not continue your own recovery efforts, the more you mess with it the less likely it is that anything can be recovered.

Yeah. I figured I exhausted all my options, short of a data recovery service. Unfortunate for the user. She never bothered to back up anything, despite my warnings.

I any case, thank you very much for the feedback.
