Hi,

I have been cleaning/removing old thermal compound with Acetone every time i would reapply thermal paste. And that has been like 4 times. 2 on the CPU and 2 on the GPU.

I've been using a chemically pure Acetone, that does not contain oil or something. It's pure acetone. I dip "ear-cotton-tops" with acetone, and in that way, remove the paste. Is that very bad? I do not touch any plastic part tho, only on the metal.

And btw! When I dismounted my heatsink yesterday, the whole friggin CPU came with it! I was rly stunned... How the hell could that happend? And it was like the CPU were litteraly glued to the heatsink, forced me to use a medium amount of force to take it off from the heatsink.

Is this due to a bad thermal paste or..? I think it was Arctic cooling MX-2, or Cooler master thermal compound kit, dont remember.

Solution
acetone wont damage the heatspreader, and it will clean it. it is highly not suggested for use because of how it reacts to plastics though. you were already aware of this.

the cpu stuck to the heatsink because of the thermal compound. not the first time ive heard of it.

Okay.. Were I lucky that the CPU didnt break? Cuz it actually came with the heatsink when I was gonna remove it, with the CPU socket pin LOCKED!... Not a single gold pin is damaged either...
