Hello,
I have read many of the posts concernng this problam and I seem to dense, so here is my setup.
In this nework there is a Westell DSL modem that connects to two 8 port switches. 15 ports are connected to PCs and printers, the PC's all have internet connectivity with basic addresses of 192.168.1.X. Yes I know this is a big network but I can not change it. It has XP and Win 7 PC's.

Another network of 3 PC's and 2 printers are interconnected by another 8 port switch. This network is not connetced to the internet and has addresses of 10.173.133.X. This network has a server running Solaris wth a dedicated application. The PC's run both this application and Windows XP.

At one time I had this configured so that the 10.173 network could access the internet through a router, but a hardware failure and a requirement from the applicaton supplier, required me to remove the router and replace it with a switch.
Now I was wondering if I could put a router between the two switches so the 10.173 could access the 192.168 network internet.
I have a Netgear FVS318 v3 router that has a default confiuration of 192.168.0.X. Can I use this to interconnect the two switches?
Thanks for any help.

Solution
it should work as long as you configure the WAN to be part of the 192.168.1.x network and the LAN 10.172.133.1 and use this IP as a gateway IP on the Solaris computer
