music
pictures
videos
a few computer games

My idea is to have an SSD + HDD set up where both operating systems on the SSD (windows 8 + ubuntu) can have access to the same music, pictures, etc.

I would like to spend as little as possible on the hard drive so that i might afford a better SSD. With that said i would also like the hard drive to have at least 750gb of space on it (preferably 1 TB).

What should i be looking for as far as RPM, cache size, sata connection, etc.?

sure you cant get by with the Crucial MX100 SSD 512GB, less storage devises is better, and its hard filling up 500gb with useful stuff anyways. using ssd in os ony is a waste, no game benefits, install boost or anything, os is the least of your speed needs.
