My laptop came with Vista pre-loaded, I have no system to reinstall. Why isn't it on the recovery disk? Why would a recovery disk (created by me) give me an option that makes the laptop unusable? What can I do now?
Download the install files and create a new installation disk -- Here is a link to the various VISTA files ( http://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/57-windows-vista-direct-download-links ) just chose the ones that match the product key you have and download the 3 files and then follow the tutorial in the same article as the download links to create an install disc.

Well that option does state "erase hard drive" which is what it did. It's there to ensure that none of your data is on the system. Why can't you use the recovery disk to re-install the operating system? It should give you that option.
