Is it worth it to upgrade from an EVGA GTX 770 SC ACX to a Sapphire VAPOR-X R9 290 Tri-X OC?

I'm looking to potentially sell my EVGA GTX 770 and upgrade to the SAPPHIRE R9 290.

I will sell this:

The purpose of this would be to get the most life out of my video card. I don't want to have to buy a new GPU for 2+ years. My question is this - would the performance benefits + the $200 I'll have to spend on the Sapphire card be worth it? I doubt I'll be able to sell the EVGA GTX 770 for any more than $300 (and that's on a good day on eBay).

Also, are the differences with the VAPOR-X worth the extra money when compared to the regular sapphire r9 290 tri-x?

If you absolutely have to play every game on Ultra+, even the 290 wouldn't last 2+ years. If you're fine with playing on Ultra, High, and possibly medium, then the 770 will likely last more than 2 years. It's all about how satisfied you are with the visuals.

Unless you are playing on multiple monitors, and/or games are borderline unplayable on the settings you require, I would say it is not worth the money. On a single 1920x1080 monitor, I don't see the difference as being meaningful.

worth it is tough to determine... i'd say you'll get $280 on ebay, after 10% fees, 3% to paypal, and then shipping... you're only going to clear $240

so it's going to cost you $230 to upgrade....

stock for stock a 290x is only like 10% more powerfuly than a 770.
start getting into OC version, and that can change. yes it does have 4gb of VRAM, which is more future proof as some of the new top games are recomending 3+ gb of VRAM

you're basically spending double to gain 10% with a little more in things like watch dogs.

i'd say thats horrible value for money.

if you're at a single 1080p monitor, i'd stick with the 770.

What res? @ 1080P the 770 is really good, I play pretty much every game I want maxed out with a pretty heavily OC'd 680. I think your fine, don't take a loss on your 770 just because, game and enjoy your system. If a game is a little much use fxaa.

On a side note an open box 290x on newegg for 500.00 is pretty sweet and will game ultra at 1080P ultra for a long while IMHO.

I'm very satisfied with the visuals on my GTX 770 - honestly I was just tempted seeing all these sapphire r9 290's go on sale. The Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X was just on sale at Newegg for $370 a week ago. So it's probably best to hold out, save my money and stick it out with the GTX 770, huh?

With all the extras you get with your Nvidia card, in addition to the money, you may be losing more than you gain.

No it's not pointless. What I did was download MSI furmark, and bump memory up until it wasn't stable, then go back to where it was, then bump up frequency with mem turned up until it was crashing or until my score went down. If you look at precision x you can turn your voltage up all the way, do that before you start testing, it will make it more stable. Bump it up 25 or so at a time, I just put my fan up to 70-75%, crank all of my case fans up too, put on my headphones and game. I have my profile saved so I can just go back to default when not gaming and switch over when I want to game. Do a little googleing to get the finer points but that is basically it! Your GPU should be binned (picked out to be a little better) so it could OC like mad lol. Just keep that sucker cool! Hottest mine gets is 70C thats hours of OC intense gaming.
