So here's the deal: I'm trying to upgrade my poor, old, stupid ASUS G72G (not G72Gx, just a G72G).

I have a question as far as upgrading the RAM is concerned.

Currently, I'm rocking some DDR2. I'm well aware that, in general, you cannot replace DDR2 with DDR3, due to the difference in the slots. (Their dirty, dirty slots :p )

So, I was trying to look up my chipset. According to Intel's Chipset Identification Utility, I have a P43/P45 Express Chipset. The problem is, I'm not sure what this means. Intel doesn't, or rather, didn't, make a chipset that they referred to as the P43/P45.

Now, they made a P43 and a PM45 chipset, the stats of which you can see here:

So, number one, I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly which chipset I have, as only one of those two is referred to as a mobile chipset.

However, that's all kind of beside the point. The main thing is that both chipsets say they support both DDR2 and DDR3.

So my main question is, what's the deal, can I upgrade to DDR3 or not?
