Adding an SSD to be my new OS drive. Do I need to reinstall everything?

I currently have one 500GB HDD. I am adding a 120GB SSD and I plan to move my OS (Windows 7) to it and one or two apps that I use a bunch. Everything else that is currently on the existing drive will stay there, including my daughters 12 SIMS games. I have my WIndows 7 ISO and key, so no problem there. Here is what I can figure out:

1. I am assuming I need to make the new OS drive designation C:/ and change the old drive to D:/. Do I need to reinstall all the apps on the old HDD due to the letter change? Or can I just open the desktop shortcuts and change the path?

2. Once the OS is installed on the new drive, how do I delete it off the old drive?

3. Instead of doing 1, can I just call the new drive D:? and change the bios (or ...?) to look to D for the OS instead of C:?

Thanks.

Solution
Install the OS fresh on the new SSD.

Copy any critical, personal data elsewhere first
Have only the SSD connected when you do the install
Once the new OS is up and running, you can reconnect the HDD
Install whatever applications you want on either drive.
