Will connecting an extra screen to my gpu for other use and keeping one for gaming affect gaming performence?

I was looking for some cheap simple 4:3 screen to sit next to my 1080p 23inch screen which i use for gaming, and was wondering if it will have any effect on the gaming performence (planning to game only on the widescreen).

If you aren't gaming on the second monitor, it won't affect performance much. You might see a slight dip if there is a video playing or some form of content playing on the second monitor that is using GPU or CPU resources.
