Hey all,
I have an older Gigabyte G41m-ES2H motherboard and I installed Windows 8.1 on this system a little earlier in the year. Everything works great, but recently I want to go wired instead of using a usb wireless linksys device.
For some reason when I look in device manager under network adapters, the only device listed is the usb linksys dongle that I have. If I unplug that, then there is no network adapters in device manager at all. There is also no unknown heading in device manager and there are no devices with the exclamation mark on them.
With all that said, I took to Gigabytes site. As expected, they don't make Windows 8 drivers for the G41M-ES2H board. So I downloaded the Windows 7 64 bit drivers as I have heard many times the windows 7 drivers for a device will work. When I went to install the driver, I got an error that stated FindFile failed. However, it went past this error. Towards the end it then states that "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode enabled Please Plug the Cable."
Since I could not get it working with that driver, I went to Realtek's site and downloaded the Windows 8 driver from their site. It installed, but I got the same "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode enabled Please Plug the Cable." Still no luck with this driver either.
The mobo is based on the G41 chipset, so I did some searching on that, but apparently Windows 8.1 installs the drivers for that already.
I'm at loss here. Anyone have any ideas what could be going on or have any suggestions?
I forgot to mention I have looked in the bios and the onboard LAN is enabled.
Thanks,
Doug D.
