Dual Channel Board plus Quad channel DDR3

If my mobo (gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3) only supports Dual Channel, is there much point in me getting G.Skill 32GB Ripjaws X Quad Channel Memory Kit, I know I don't need that much but me and a friend are in a running competition over who has the newest best thing, he's a better builder than I am but I earn more so can splash out on stuff like this as my points in what I know is 2 people being a bit childish, but anyway, ideas please people.
