Recently I have replaced the stock fans on the cooler as they have been getting quite noisy and the cpu temps were getting around 50 idle and 70 to 80 under load (I have an amd phenom II X4 965 running at stock settings). I replaced them with two corsair sp 120s quiet edition and also applied ic diamond 7. For about a week and a half the temps were around 40 idle and 60-70 under load, but recently the computer became very laggy when simply surfing the web and then began to shut itself off after about a minute or two of being on. When I checked the temperature I saw it reached over 100 degrees. I have had the cooler for almost a year.

Would the problem be related to the new fans, the thermal paste, or just the cooler being fault? Is there anything I could do to test anything without damaging the cpu?

Thanks for any help!

Hi, the fans you use do not cool the cooler enough. The original fans were noisier, becuase they were cooling more. You can try to heck by putting the original fans back on, then it should have the better temperatures. The cooler should not be broken, you are just overheating and slowly killing your CPU with the SP120s.
