Hi all, I have been given my Niece's sony Vaio PCG-81114L to see if I could fix it. Through many different tests and failures, I finally discovered an 8 pinned chip on the motherboard was burnt. I will attach a picture. I have watched several instructional videos on how to change this type of chip. The most important task I face now, is getting the right chip. I was really hoping someone on here could help me identify the chip, and maybe have some suggestions on where to buy one.

Hmm, I just tried to attach a picture. I am afraid I do not know how to link my picture to a "Url". Any help with this would be appreciated also.. lol.

Thanks

Update:

Yes, PQ1 and PQ2 are the same chip. This is a P-Channel Enhancement Mode Field Effect Transistor. So what ever PQ1 is, get that chip. This is for the DCIN/Charging circuit.

Ok, thanks cball1311. Here is a picture.

Thanks again

I'm trying to find that chip buddy. Since, it's difficult to read, a schematic of the motherboard may be the only way to determine what chip it is. I looks exactly like the chip beside it labeled PQ1. Both of them begin with "48xxxxxxx" and they usually label chips that are the same family with the same starting label (hence the PQ1 and PQ2 respectively beside the chips on the PCB).

You are awesome! And very smart. Thank you. I do appreciate your help. Next is finding out where I can get one of these chips. At least you have given me something to google and see if there is somewhere close to me. I have tried a few other key words / phrases, but nothing. not even really an online store. Although, there is a few places I can call and maybe get the leads I need to find it.

I was surmising the chips were the same. I noticed the triangle symbol and the "Q" or "O" underneath it.

This has become a quest for knowledge and the satisfaction of following through and fixing it for my Neice. I do believe I can; provided I find the right chip, and of coarse nothing else is burnt unforeseen.

I thank you "cball1311", for your help and enthusiasm that has been added to this project. I will keep you posted. And, please feel free to add any advice or help.

Thanks again.. :)

Did you find the chip for sale? If not, what is the number on it and I wouldn't mind helping you find it. Hopefully there are no shorts in any of the resistors in the circuit. This would provide resistance free current to the MOSFET and could of caused it to fry. I am hoping that is was more or less a power surge from the charger. It probably wouldn't hurt just to order a new charging cord as well to eliminate any incoming overvolting from the power cord. Just to make sure. I would hate for you to install the new chip and it just fry as soon as you plug in the charging cord. I would also take out the battery prior to plugging in the power cord as well.

Sorry cball1311, I had to put the laptop on hold for a few days. I haven't been able to research where to get the chip yet. I have a car project on the go too.. lol. I did get the number off the chip though. And I would very much like your help in finding one.
The number on the chip is as follows:

"4835D"
"(a strange symbol) DN (then a triangle symbol)".
"X02C"

The characters within the quotations is what is on the chip.

I do again thank you for your help. I do have a new universal "cool power" power adapter that I can use to first fire it up after the chip surgery.. :)

Hope your still subscribed to this thread

Man, I have looked and looked for this specific chip. It might be proprietary. I would say that you could try any 4835D ic and see what you get. If not, I would have to say just get a totally new motherboard. You would probably be safer with the second option because, like I said before, you just don't know if anything else is shorted, fried, etc. The motherboard will set you back about $130-$200 though. That was the cheapest I could find it.

Here are three sites that are selling them. I do not know anything about these sites or purchasing from them but getting Laptop motherboards is tough.

I transplanted a chip (I thought it was a "power related chip") from a Samsung Pebble netbook into a Dell Studio 1558and by the Spaghetti in the sky! It worked. The burning of the chip made the power to the HDD go off. So I took a look inside the Pebble and followed the traces and found the 8 legged chip in a position similar to where it was in the Dell.
