Where do my files go after I do a recovery on my windows xp?

I did a recovery on my windows xp. Then I went to look for "My Pictures" and they are gone. I am not sure how to recover them. When going into search, "Pictures and Photo's" then file name "My Pictures" it comes up, No results to display. If there is someone that can walk me through this, I would be grateful!!!!!!

Did you do a recovery or did you reinstall Windows? You might look in your C drive and see if you have a file called windows.old. If you have that file then Windows cannot see the old files. All is not lost though. There are free programs that will let you find files that are on the hard drive but not in the Windows directory. I bought such a program called Ontrack but it costs $500. There are free programs that do the same thing.
