We have a HP DL 380 G5 server configured with Raid 5 and a HP Storage server connected to this server through SAS cable.

Now one HDD in the storage server failed, and my HP DL 380 G5 is restarting frequently.

When i spoke with the HP technical guy, he stated that the failed HDD is creating alerts continuously and in one point of time, server hangs and restarting.

Now my question is what will happen if i remove the failed HDD from the storage server.

Will the data be available in other HDD which is available?

Yes, the data will be available but it will be at risk. I would not try to mess with the data until the drive is replaced and the array fully rebuilt. The drives on a DL380G5 are hot-swap, and the Smart Array P400 that comes standard will immediately add the replacement drive to the array and start rebuilding the data. The time it will take depends on the amount of data to be written, the amount of cache memory available to the controller, and the rebuild priority as set in the ACU (Array Configuration Utility).

As far as the hard drive causing the restarts, that sounds fishy, unless the data in the array has become corrupted. You should check the iLO (integrated Lights Out) logs to see if it can point you to the cause of the reboots. Also look at the SID (System Insight Display) for any amber LEDs. If it's amber it's marked as a failed part and needs replacing.

This.
Running an array in degraded state wouldn't cause unexpected restarts. Having another drive that is unstable will.
Worst possible scenario for RAID5 is when you have intermittent drive failure and they are popping in and out of the array leading to outdated/inconsistent parity.

The lowest risk thing to do is to take the array offline and image all of the drives before doing ANY troubleshooting.
