I'm looking to get the best gaming rig I can fir the lowest budget. I want to know if buying the i5-4690k is worth the extra £20.... thoughts?

Solution

Depends on the CPU, some will OC better then others (Luck of the draw really, you can get poor overclocking chips and really good ones.). My ivy bridge 4930k hex core is doing very well at 4.9Ghz stable, I could take it to 5.2GHz...

I was talking to a man on scan.com and he said that supposedly they will oc to a possible 5ghz?

nah, sandybridge did 5 ghz, ivybridge did 4.8 and haswell does 4.6

and not all of them either, only about 30 percent of haswell-k processors will hit 4.6

on the plus side, because of increased ipc, all these processors are about equal with full overclocks

it was theorized devils canyon would overclock well because of "improved tim" but early results are not promising. at this point im thinking they may just get binned better than a 4670k, and therefor more of them would hit 4.6ghz but we will see.

ive been reading about intels silicone lottery and it reported that these i5 4690k chips have a huge swing some will hit 4.2gz oc before they hit max temp the best of the bunch will hit .4.8-5gz i find it abit worrying. would hate to be the guy with the 4.2 chip roasting away
