Im not sure what wattage my PSU should be; I was wondering if anyone could help. My parts are:

Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

Sandisk 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Zalman Z5 Plus ATX Mid Tower Case

Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Hannspree HE225DPB 21.5" Monitor

TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter

Arctic Cooling Arctic F12 74.0 CFM 120mm Fan

Cooler Master SickleFlow 120

Sapphire AMD R9 290 TRI-X OC Graphics Card

8gb (2x4) 1.5v ram

Would 500w be enough?

id go with a 650 watt personally, and make sure its a nice one. you are spending a lot of money on parts and a cheap psu can take them out in an instant.

fully agree with neon neophyte, NEVER EVER skimp out on a psu.....I would suggest either Corsair or Seasonic, maybe XFX if you plan on changing the psu within 5 years ....so that either Corsair AX650 or RM 650 (bit unsure of the RM series though in terms of reliability)...or the best of the best:!..Seasonic X650 (the corsair AX and Seasonic X having exactly the same internals but i think Seasonic offers a longer warranty)

EDIT: one more thing, getting an i7 3770k over an i5 3570k or 4670k will show absolutely (and i mean 'absolutely') no benefit in terms of gaming performance, so i would suggest getting an i5 4670k...and then spending the saved money on either a 290x or maybe a better SSD (Samsung 840 evo)

A 500 or 550 would probably be enough, but it doesn't really hurt anything to go bigger. Think of a power supply being more like a bucket, sure you can carry 1 gallon in a 1 gallon bucket, but you can also carry it in a 2 gallon bucket just as easily and have room to spare. The same way a 500 watt supply will run your 350 watt machine just fine, but having more room is generally better.

I would consider something in the 550-650 watt rage, but just make sure you grab something from a reliable brand, people seem to like Seasonic, Antec, Corsair.... read a review or two of the unit you are going to purchase to ensure it doesn't have any weird build problems and you should be fine.

agree on a 550w probably being enough, just make sure it is great quality.

i like to go a touch higher than required. less work on the psu and gives a nice buffer for overclocking anything. lots of hard drives blah blah blah

all seasonics are good and all but cx and vs corsair are good

Does the processor thing still hold true even though the main purpose will be 3d modelling and video editing? Thanks for your answer

Thanks fpr all the answers people, I bought the parts then suddenly realised I had made a grevious error in only getting a 500w power supply. I shall send it back and get a better one.

you'll probably want hyperthreading for 3d modelling

So go for the i7 then? Thanks everybody, I ordered from amazon so it's easy to return. I'll get a better power supply but keep the rest how it is.

It's not a very good supply it's made by HEC.

Is it worth sending it back or will it do? I had to get it quick because the sale was ending but i can return it easily enough.
