Hi all,
Looking for some support. I have an older HP laptop (dv7-1285dx) running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and would like to add another hard drive in the extra bay. I purchased the Hitachi Travelstar thinking I would simply be able to install into the extra drive bay boot up and go from there using it as an extra drive for storage etc. The HP does not see the drive when installed. Is there a bios setting that I need to change on the HP? I also tried installing the Hitachi drive in my external case that connects via dual USB and got the same thing, HP does not see the drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,

It's a new hard drive.
You have to partition and format the new hard drive first so that Windows assigns a drive letter to it.
Without a drive letter, Windows cannot show the drive anywhere except in Disk Management.
That's where you need to be to partition and format it:
Start > Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Management >Disk Management

Thank you Phillip, really appreciate your quick response. I've been scouring the net along with this forum for answers, and did come across a similar statement. I will give that a shot when I get home today from work. What a great forum.
