Recently my computer started getting BSOD and then shutting down when playing a game. Yesterday that happened aswell but now when it starts up it goes in to some state where its white dots and lines all over the screen. Im wondering if its hardware-related and what i can to do fix it(start playing games again)?!

Setup:

Graphics: Geforce 9800 GT
Motherboard: Asus M5A78I-M LE
Processor: AMD Athlon II X3 455 Processor 3,30 GHz
4 G RAM

Edit: I recently updated my Graphics card to the latest version, and the BSOD has happened afterwards. I formatted the PC but to no avail though.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
I have reinstalled Windows, checked the RAM for bad memory spots and the hard drive for bad sectors using Windows 7 tools without any results.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I bought this PC from a friend 2 years ago, so i don't know how old the PSU is..
The model is an ASUS GPS- 300 AB C(i am pressuming this is the info you want) from Delta Electronics.

Delta Electronics is a reputable PSU manufacturer, I'm going to take a wild stab here and guess your PC has been running loud lately (by my reckoning because of the PSU being overworked). I ran a similar system for a while but the PSU couldn't keep up after a year and needed replacement. That really isn't too bad since Nvidia says 400W PSU for the 9800GT so you've been (as I did) pushing your PSU for a while - I think (especially if I'm correct about noise level) a PSU replacement may be in order here

It's been running loud for as long as i can remember, although i haven't thought about it.
Yeah i reckon the PSU says 330W so i suppose you're right! Thanks for the tip.
Any recommendation for a PSU suitable for my graphics card?

Hi again, i'll definitely look in to the hardware you posted if i can't find another solution/ problem. I downloaded "Bluescreenview" to see what caused the problem, with the results:
ntoskrnl.exe caused the problem one time
Several times Nvlddmkm.sys caused the problem

Does this tell you anything, or you still think the PSU is the issue?

The NTSOKRNL BSOD is very generic (simply means there was a problem with the OS) - the NVLDDMKM is traceable to the graphics drivers and there are a few ways to attempt to fix that. I think I will start by recommending you have the latest graphics drivers installed (available from the graphics card manufacturer or Nvidia
Actually, the BSOD messages aren't too bad here and although I'm still sure there is an underlying power issue here, the fact that there are BSOD reports means the PSU is still trying.
One other thing you might try is to clean out the PSU thoroughly with compressed air, stick the wand down into the PSU past the fan and blow out all corners, keep working it until no more dust comes out (that may also help the PSU) - oh hell, clean the whole PC while you're in there. Give special attention to fans (hold them to prevent overspeeding while blowing air through) and heatsinks. There's a good chance that the PC will respond nicely to a cleaning and update of graphics drivers (won't need to purchase a PSU just yet if that works but it is something you'll want to look to budget soon anyway)

The problem started when i updated to the latest Nvidia driver! Could it be that the latest version requires more from the PSU than the versions before?
I think i'll get a new PSU anyways, but it would be nice to know if that could be the underlying problem.

I actually "rolled back" the driver to the version i had before, the BSOD:s stopped but now, instead, after a time i get dots/ white lines and then the screen(not the computer) instantly shuts down and can't connect to the PC anymore.. Do you have any thoughts on that?
