Hi guys, So I managed to get this GPU on the cheap-ish. I have a main system but this 280x is for someone close to me and the system is not very amazing. As a result the GPU won't show any input not even the bios. Any tips to get it running on this system would be awesome but i'm willing to spend if it comes to it.

Pretty dodgy power supply? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/650w-ace-black-non-modular-uncertified-1x120mm-red-fan-atx-v23-psu
Well and a MSI 280x - I don't have a 6 pin and 8 pin only 2x6 pin which I thought would work for the time being. Any help would be appreciated. Any ideas why it won't boot is it the PSU? Just a FYI the fans are spinning as normal on the 280x

No. Please do not try to turn on your computer for any longer. That power supply is simply rubbish and risk in kill all component connected to it. Please turn off the power for the pc and throw away that junk power supply before you start a fire or something.
If your power supply doesn't support the PCI power cables for the gpu, don't ever use it at all since it is clearly not designed to run that gpu.

please do not cheap out on power supplies ever. There are the most important component in your pc since it is the one giving power to your pc yet it has the capability of killing them as well
You need at least 550W.
Stick to brands like: Antec, Coolermaster V series only, Corsair(AX, HX or TX series only), EVGA SuperNova G2 series only...

Yeah I'm not a total noob lol but what I understand about pc the majority know more hence why I came here. I just ordered the Corsair cs650m as it is a reasonable price and the reviews are overall very good. But my motherboard is upsetting me I haven't seen anyone running the rev 4.1 but some say it will work with the 280x. Thanks

Your motherboard isn't too bad yet it is not great either. For FX cpus from FX 6300 and above, getting a ATX sized 970 motherboard is better since they have the required power phases on them to prevent cpu throttling. The corsair CS 650m isn't too bad as well. it should be fine but the XFX 650W is cheaper and personally i view a XFX 650W over a CS 650M.

I see, What about the connections? My MSI 280x requires a 6 pin and 8 pin, Also a question. If a PSU has 2 6 pin connectors and I hooked it up to the 280x (I'm not going to) will it run at all? Because I tried once and I didn't even get to the bios. But the fans spin, I want to know because it's either the PSU or a faulty GPU and I have only 14 days to get a refund.

I suggest getting a new psu first since you haven't fully tested your R9 280X. If you don't give it the required power at all, there will be no display output with the R9 280X. You need adequate amps on the 12V rails first, your power supply doesn't have that. It is a safety measure so you don't break your pc components.

Thanks, I'm trying to play it safe because I don't know anyone with a decent gaming pc but I'm all for getting the PSU first! Hopefully in 3 days which is well before 2 weeks but really thanks for the reassurance.

Are you kidding me? A extra £5 for a brand new one? I'm actually stoked right now and thanks for showing me that site! Wow brand new it is I had the thought it was like 100+. As for the power supply I'm sure 750w would be more then enough, right? I don't plan on overclocking the CPU but maybe the GPU once I get the i5. But other then that the only thing I would be upgrading in future is Mobo and CPU. But I would like to mention I also have 32gb 1600Mhz Corsair Vengeance, Would the 750w still be fine?

You legend! I never plan on crossfireI am easily satisfied and even if I had 40fps with atleast 2xAA and 1080p I would be over the moon, I'm sure this card could go higher but I haven't witnessed eye candy and high FPS before. I am easily impressed I guess. But my biggest problem so far is the doubt of my Mobo not reading the 280x. It is really bugging me with doubts for some odd reason.
