System can't detect OS installed on Samsung SSD (SATA 3)

I own a
SAMSUNG 840 Series MZ-7TD250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
that I purchased independently of my old laptop, and alienware M11x r2.

I replaced the HDD on the alienware with said SSD, using an Apricorn Cable and EZgig cloning software. Everything worked fine. This was all last summer.

Fast forward to my new laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga.

I ordered it with a 128GB Solid State Drive SATA3 (also made by Samsung), and planned on just cloning to the larger SSD again.

The process went smoothly once again, using the exact same methods.
I then consistently, through multiple attempts, encounter this scenario:

After cloning and installing the new hard drive, I boot up the machine. Everything is fine. I can use it perfectly with no bugs or hangups in either the bootup or the OS.

BUT the next time I reboot it (either through restart or shut down - power up ) I get an error. The hard drive is visible to the system, but no OS can be found on it!

I don't have the specific wording of the message, will post later when available.

What is the problem here? The new laptop is obviously SATA3 capable (although my knowledge of computer hardware is a limited.) Do I need to use different software? Do I need to expand my partition on the new SSD?

Thank you.
