Hello,

I'm doing a fresh install of Windows and would like to install the AHCI drivers beforehand

I'd prefer not to do it the post windows installation way (changing the registry, etc.)

I even bought a Microsoft specific compatible floppy drive to load the F6 drivers.

I think I'm stuck at a certain point tho, I'm able to see a list of drivers for AHCI and RAID, but don't know which driver to install as there's more than one.

Here they all are:

Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology is designed to provide
functionality for the following Storage Controllers:
RAID Controllers:
- Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller
- Intel(R) Mobile Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller
- Intel(R) ICH7MDH SATA RAID Controller
- Intel(R) ICH7R/DH SATA RAID Controller

AHCI Controllers:
- Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) 5 Series 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) ICH10D/DO SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) ICH7R/DH SATA AHCI Controller

I chose the desktop/workstation/server express chipset

but after windows was installed, I looked in device manager and there wasn't a sata controller present,

If anyone could help me out with this, that would be great.

Thanks

I have a Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H

I went on the Gigabyte website and downloaded the F6 drivers for Windows XP x64

If I set the BIOS to AHCI, it crashes to a blue screen once windows is being readied to be set up.

But if I set it to IDE, it continues forward

If the BIOS is set to IDE, you don't need to load any drivers during the installation.

If the BIOS is set to AHCI, you need the drivers you downloaded to be able to see the drive and install Windows.

the AHCI driver will not do you any good as long as the BIOS is set to IDE.

You are getting the BSOD since the OS is trying to load the IDE drivers but the BIOS is set to AHCI. Windows does not know to automatically update the driver. Change the BIOS back to IDE and the system should boot again.

I found these instructions on how to change from IDE to AHCI, but I have NOT personally tried them:

Thanks for looking for a solution

When it gets to picking which driver, I'm still having the same problem

It doesn't have a check box for compatible hardware

It lists like 10 AHCI drivers, not sure which one to pick ?

I ran those drivers,

the computer rebooted

i enabled AHCI mode in the BIOS

It just kept going in a loop

MOBO screen, then "Start Windows normally"
