I have a Radeon 6850 HD that I've had for a few years now. Starting about two weeks ago, my computer will boot up normally, I'll get the Windows logo, and then shortly after it'll show me just a black screen. It is totally black, as the monitor is still backlit (as though it's showing me input) but the screen itself is blank and black.

Removing drivers seems to fix the issue, and whenever I reinstall them, I get the same issue. I can boot into Safe Mode just fine.

Have you tried the latest drivers? If that doesn't work, try the ones that came with the card (if you still have the CD). Otherwise, it seems your card may have opted to retire.

Did you fix your issue? If so, how?

My apologies for the late reply, I haven't logged onto Tom's Hardware in quite a while. The problem wasn't able to be fixed, at least as far as all the options that I tried. I went out and purchased a Radeon R7 265, but that was defective (since I guess I'm really unlucky with video cards) and instead returned it and purchased a GTX 750 Ti. Haven't had any issues since I purchased it a week ago.
