I just put together my PC and I'm installing all the software. Here is my mobo driver site http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z87A/HelpDesk_Download/

I know I need to download the chipset, LAN, USB, and Audio, but do I need to download the other things like BIOS, BIO-Utilities, Hotfix, VGA, Utilities and SATA? Also do I need to download all of them or just the most recent?

Solution
Normally if your bios is giving you issues you will get the mobo boot beeps but wont post, can be a pain in the *** to troubleshoot which is why I avoid bios updates if possible ... sorry on the hotfixes, assume that is an in windows update though so I would just make a backup restore point before I run them and then try them out

Since its a newer motherboard (Z87) you should be ok to just get the most recent, i would recommend getting all but the BIOS and BIO-Utilities to start, updating the BIOS is necessary alot of the time to use chips that are released after the initial mobo release, if it works without the BIOS update then I would leave it, if not then get the update but try and get an older bios copy as well in case you need to downgrade it

The mobo manual says not to update the BIOS if its already working up the patch notes on the website say the new versions support 4th gen Intel Processors. I have an i7-4770k so should I do it? Its works fine as is but its version 1602 and the most recent is 1802. 4th gen support starts at version 1707

I would leave out the BIOS-utilities as well, same argument as to why not to include them. I have no experience with hotfix (i use Asus boards in most of my builds and dont recognize the name) so I dont think its necessary, utilities I would get, if I remember correctly its for in windows monitoring of motherboard temps fan speeds etc and is pretty nice to be able to look at at a glance

Sorry read only the first line of your response, if it is working I would say leave it but if there are perfomance issues I would update, run CPU-z when booted up and make sure that everything reports as it should, if it does then I would leave it alone

If I update the BIOS to version 1802 how do I know if I've broken it and need to go back? Will it not boot or something? Also under the patch notes for version 1802 it says

"Before using the new Intel 4th Gen Core processors, we suggest that you first download the BIOS updater for new Intel 4th Gen Core Processors and then update the BIOS using this tool."

But I don't see the BIOS updater anywhere http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z87A/HelpDesk_Download/ what are they talking about?

okay will do, also one hotfix is for product registration but the other is

"Z87-A & Z87-PLUS DTS Update Pack
Z87-A & Z87-PLUS_DTS Update Pack V1.03.00 for Windows 7/8 32bit & 64bit."

does this mean anything to you?
