As the title says, I am looking for a new monitor. I am looking for the following:

Ideally
Refresh rate: 120hz
response time: 5ms or less
display size: 29" or higher
Resolution: 2560x1080
Display type: LCD/LED

Realistically
refresh rate: 60hz
Response time: 5ms
display size: 24"-27"
Resolution: 1920x1080 minimum
Display type: IPS

Before you go ripping me a new one, I know IPS only does 60hz, so I know I have to sacrifice on that front. I am wondering which would benefit me more, the higher refresh rate or IPS? I hate the glare in my monitor right now and Ive read IPS is great for getting rid of glare.

I also know I will have to sacrifice somewhere else. I really don't want anything smaller than 24", and I would really like the higher resolution (like REALLY like). I would be willing to go dual monitors if it stays in budget.

I know my rig can handle the larger display:

CPU: AMD A10 6800K
GPU: XFX HD 7770 Core Edition (x2 in crossfire)
RAM: 8gigs (2x4 config)
PSU: corsair CX600M

Any input would be great. I really need to know which specs are best for me to throw money at.

Thanks!

Hello Cpt,

I would personally recommend the ASUS:

VS278Q-Phttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236302

I have owned this monitor for quite sometime and can say that with the refresh and the response time I have not experienced any ghosting, tearing, or lag.

However...

I don't know if you system can fully utilize this monitor. A 7770 can keep a constant 60 FPS but can it keep a constant 144 FPS at your current gaming settings?

The only problem with this monitor is that it is 6-bit color rather than 8-bit color which I have not personally noticed a difference between any monitor I have used. It may appear a little washed out at times but the higher refresh rate definitely out-weighs the color issue.

Cheers!

I don't know to be honest. I am know I can run SC2 on ultra settings (I could even when I was running a 9800GTX+), so I would think/hope it is doing just quite well in the fps dept, but can't be sure. The only other game I really play is AOE2 FE. I KNOW it can handle plenty of fps for that game. I guess I will have to do a quick run to see if i get better than 60fps.

I have a beast of a system and I can get about 120 FPS on SCII on ultra settings. I can't even reach the 144 FPS while playing SCII on Ultra. I don't think your system can really benefit from having a high response monitor for a shooter game. With your current setup I would go with a 2ms Samsung monitor with a 1920x1080 resolution at 60 MHz refresh rate.

This would probably be your best bet:

But honestly, you probably have something now that is equivalent to this Samsung monitor in terms of ms and resolution.

Well my current monitor is 1680x1050. I just played a round and I was 50-70 fps, so I really don't think I would benefit from anything more than 60hz. I'm guessing it would be better but SC2 apparently doesn't support crossfire.

That monitor is well below my desired size, and is even smaller than my current monitor. I really want to improve my display size, resolution and overall image quality.

Anyone have any experience with IPS? my friend is really talking it up and from what I'm reading its pretty nice.

Thanks!
