some displayport implementations don't actually support audio. The spec does, but many adapters, and some output devices don't. Hence having adapters specifically stating audio support like this:

sorry forgot to mention i can get audio when they are plugged in individualy

Assuming that you DO actually have audio via the Displayport output, my guess is that the computer isn't even capable of putting out audio to both screens at the same time.

The HDMI and Displayport are likely considered separate audio solutions, just like your onboard or addon sound card and you can only have ONE of these selected at a time.

You would likely have to manually change this through the software each time for "Audio Playback Devices" (or via the video control panel).

A possible workaround is to have an HDMI SWITCH. You can only have one screen working at a time, but you wouldn't have to mess with the audio. I bought one at Monoprice that was mechanical for $15 though I did have to physically press the button to change outputs.

There may be SPLITTERS that work as well though they may need to be powered to prevent signal loss and would also show the same image on both screens.
