Hi, i have a dell dimension 4700. It currently has 2gb of ram but supports 4gb. I bought 4 sticks of 1gb each off crucial. But the system only sees 2gb in windows and the bios. All the ram is properly inserted. Then i thought, "mabey its because it has a 32 bit os?" but the wierd thing is, the cpu is only 32 bit compatible, but the manual says the system accepts 4gb, and windows 32 bit only is only supposed to read 3.5gb. Someone please help me, this is really confusing me.

Hello Sam,

Have you tried moving around the memory and trying different slots?

Can you check that the BIOS is detecting 4GB of memory?
4096MB is what it should display.

Worst possible case, the memory controller on the board is bad and is only running in single channel due to the system being so dated.

Cheers!

Sorry to hear that Sam. Older systems do break over time. You can get a cheap motherboard from eBay for just a few bucks though. Give it a look!
