CPU & MOTHERBOARD reaching the same temp

My CPU and motherboard heat sink (northbridge, i believe?) hits the same temputure and over heats, leaving my computer to shut down.

could this be fixed with water cooling? or is one of the components at fault here?

Poor airflow or possibly bad thermal interface material (dried up grease).

AMD 8350 CPU
Generic RAM 8GB
ASUS motherboard M5A97 R2.0
PSU mod xtreme pro 600w
Generic cpu fan
Aerocool Strike-X GT PC CASE

Feel the Northbridge heat sink with your finger. Does it burn? If not then perhaps you just have a bad reading and it could be something else like PSU.

In that instance I would contact ASUS tech support. They might have a remedy, but I doubt it. You are looking at RMA, which kind of sucks since you will be without a mobo for like 2 weeks.

Your CPU should not affect the chipset northbridge temp.
