I posted a few days ago but I have made significant progress since then.

I'll supply a lot of information -

This is a homebuilt system, here are the major specs.

MOBO: Gigabyte
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Processor: AMD Rana x3 3.0ghz
http://204.14.213.185/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Wireless Card: http://204.14.213.185/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I was using windows XP 32 bit and was experience very repetitive lag spikes every 60 seconds. The systemic nature of the problem tells me that it is not something random.
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit to see if that would solve the problem. Unfortunately, I'm still seeing these lag spikes in every game, and when I use the ping command.

Here's what I know:

-No other computer in the house experiences these spikes. I used the ping command and they all stay consistent.

-There is very little software on the computer right now. Just the drivers (ATI catalyst control center, Gigabyte drivers, Ralink wireless utility), Avast antivirus. I don't think it's malware/virus related.

Since no other computers are experiencing this problem, I don't think the problem lies in the router/modem/ISP. I think the problem is in the MOBO, wireless card, or software conflicts (between microsoft and ralink).

What do you guys think? Is it worth me going out and picking up a cheap usb adapter to see if it's a hardware problem? I can't live with this lag anymore

I know I posted 2 days ago about this but since then I've made significant progress (wiped my system and changed my whole OS). I'm dying here.

since this is a pci card you could try to use another computer to test her and see if the lag appear .

Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can get my hands on a cable to test a wired connection. It has to be this crappy Azio card and Ralink software. If it's not an issue with the card, then I'm in trouble. I don't think it could be the motherboard and I have no software currently loaded that would raise any red flags.

I unplugged the card from the motherboard and replugged it into the same slot (classic IT-guy move). No improvement.

you could try her in another board slot .

Another board slot did not solve the problem. Walmart wanted 40 bucks for 50ft of ethernet... Instead, I picked up a belkin 150N which, by amazon reviews, is a POS usb wireless adapter. After many ping tests, there were no spikes (yay!). But a relatively high amount of packet loss (which looks to be common with this wireless adapter). I've amazon-prime'd a highly reviewed usb adapter.

So, my wireless PCI card is disabled and the cheap usb adapter does not show any systematic spiking just random packet loss. Hopefully a new usb adapter will alleviate all problems!

you could also get another pci card to remove the azio and try the tp-link one ,if that azio still under the 1 year warranty ask for a rma from the maker .
