Computer Shutting Itself Off

Okay, this one is a little random and slightly difficult to diagnose. I think I know what the problem is but I want confirmation from people who most likely know more than I do about these things.

Lately we've been having problems with our circuit breaker when a lot of things are turned on, nothing new there right? Well, after this past weekend when the circuit tripped again, I went to go turn my computer on and it shut off at the Windows login screen. Just *poof* and it was off. Turned it back on again and it worked fine since.

I shut my computer down and turned the PSU off to install a video card, and it happened yet again, multiple times. Sometimes during the bootup process, sometimes at the BIOS screen, etc. But after a while, it started up without issue and I'm playing 3D games with no issues at all.

So, my question to you fine people is this: Could this possibly be a symptom of a PSU going bad or potentially a problem with the outlet/circuit itself not giving enough power to my computer at first because of all the other devices hooked up to it?

Keep in mind that this only happens after the PSU is deprived of power for a time. If it's allowed to operate, it eventually stays on for as long as I need it, no matter what sort of taxing thing I do with the computer.

My PSU is a Rosewill RP500-2 500W, been using it for 5+ years now without a single problem until now.

I would if I could. I don't really have any money to blow, I was more just asking for opinions. The first thing I was going to try was plugging the computer into a different outlet (one on a different circuit) all on its own the next time I deprived the PSU of power to see if it happens again.

Even if it works 100% fine under normal conditions? I mean, I play all sorts of stressing games on it that push my video card to the limit and I never have a crash or any sort of framerate lag.

Sorry if I'm nitpicking, I just really hope it's not the PSU is all, heh.

The CPU typically doesn't go over 55 under full load, idles between 33-39. GPU idles at 39 and doesn't go over 72 at full load. (This is all Celsius of course.)

Also, how reliable are software monitors for PSU voltages? Not very, I'm guessing?

Alright, thanks. Only reason I was asking is because HWMonitor reported that my PSU's 12v rail was going down to 11.45 under full load, and my 5v is apparently just sitting at 5.7 forever. Oh and my -12v is at -13. Huh.

Anyway, so the temps look okay?

Well, bit of an update now. I was about to switch the power strip to a different outlet when I noticed the plug was slightly corroded and the end of the ground had a tiny burned spot on it. Needless to say, it's now in the trash and I've replaced it with a good power strip, and plugged it in to a different outlet.

It still, unfortunately, hasn't fixed the strange problem with my power supply. I pressed the power button and it died a split second after it came on. Pressed the button again and it died a few seconds later. The third time was the charm as the system has been on stably ever since. I can even, as before, run the CPU and GPU usage up to 100% for extended periods without so much as a single ounce of protest. No crashes, no slowdowns, nothing.

I'm 100% stumped.
